AI Systems in Text-Based Online Counselling: Ethical Considerations Across Three Implementation Approaches

Text-based online counselling scales across geographical and stigma barriers, yet faces practitioner shortages, lacks non-verbal cues and suffers inconsistent quality assurance. Whilst artificial intelligence offers promising solutions, its use in mental health counselling raises distinct ethical challenges. This paper analyses three...

Silenced by Design Censorship, Governance, and the Politics of Access in Generative AI Refusal Behavior

This paper examines refusal behavior in generative AI systems through a governance lens. Drawing on historical frameworks of censorship and contemporary design logics, it argues that refusal is not a neutral safeguard but a site of power, shaped by institutional risk management and opaque decision-making. The analysis concludes with...

Beyond Sharpness: A Flatness Decomposition Framework for Efficient Continual Learning

Continual Learning (CL) aims to enable models to sequentially learn multiple tasks without forgetting previous knowledge. Recent studies have shown that optimizing towards flatter loss minima can improve model generalization. However, existing sharpness-aware methods for CL suffer from two key limitations: (1) they treat sharpness...

Learning About Learning: A Physics Path from Spin Glasses to Artificial Intelligence

The Hopfield model, originally inspired by spin-glass physics, occupies a central place at the intersection of statistical mechanics, neural networks, and modern artificial intelligence. Despite its conceptual simplicity and broad applicability -- from associative memory to near-optimal solutions of combinatorial optimization problems...

Simple Power Analysis of Polynomial Multiplication in HQC

The Hamming Quasi-Cyclic (HQC) cryptosystem was selected for standardization in the fourth round of the NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) standardization project. The goal of the PQC project is to standardize one or more quantum-resistant public-key cryptographic algorithms. In this paper, we present a single-trace Simple Power...

Performance Benchmarks for 2-View and 3-View Fiber-Projection Fine-Grained Particle Detectors

Fine-grained scintillator detectors are critical for precision measurements in nuclear and particle physics, where accurate reconstruction of interaction vertices and secondary particle directions enables separation of signal from background events. A well-known design choice is the fiber readout geometry: traditional 2-View systems...

GeoMotionGPT: Geometry-Aligned Motion Understanding with Large Language Models

Discrete motion tokenization has recently enabled Large Language Models (LLMs) to serve as versatile backbones for motion understanding and motion-language reasoning. However, existing pipelines typically decouple motion quantization from semantic embedding learning, linking them solely via token IDs. This approach fails to...

Integrating Machine-Generated Short Descriptions into the Wikipedia Android App: A Pilot Deployment of Descartes

Short descriptions are a key part of the Wikipedia user experience, but their coverage remains uneven across languages and topics. In previous work, we introduced Descartes, a multilingual model for generating short descriptions. In this report, we present the results of a pilot deployment of Descartes in the Wikipedia Android app,...

Learning to Unfold Fractional Programming for Multi-Cell MU-MIMO Beamforming with Graph Neural Networks

In the multi-cell multiuser multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) systems, fractional programming (FP) has demonstrated considerable effectiveness in optimizing beamforming vectors, yet it suffers from high computational complexity. Recent improvements demonstrate reduced complexity by avoiding large-dimension matrix inversions (i.e.,...

Fifteen Years of Learning Analytics Research: Topics, Trends, and Challenges

The learning analytics (LA) community has recently reached two important milestones: celebrating the 15th LAK conference and updating the 2011 definition of LA to reflect the 15 years of changes in the discipline. However, despite LA's growth, little is known about how research topics, funding, and collaboration, as well as the...

Rotation of a polytope in another one

We are interested in the naive problem whether we can move a solid object in a solid box or not. We restrict move to rotation. In the case we can, the centre and the ``direction'' of rotation may be restricted. Simplifying, we consider possibility of rotation of a polytope within another one of the same dimension and give a criterion...

Universal basic income in a financial equilibrium

Universal basic income (UBI) is a tax scheme that uniformly redistributes aggregate income amongst the entire population of an economy. We prove the existence of an equilibrium in a model that implements universal basic income. The economic agents choose the proportion of their time to work and earn wages that can be used towards...

Decoupling of single-particle and collective dynamics in arrested phase-separating glassy mixtures

We investigate the structure and dynamics of a hard colloid-star polymer mixture in the range of its arrested phase separation, where an incipient demixing transition is interfering with a nearby vitrification line, focusing on the protein limit (smaller hard component). Soft-hard mixtures present a rich dynamics, influenced by...

Impact of Nuclear Reaction Rates on Calcium Production in Population III Stars: A Global Analysis

We investigate the sensitivity of calcium production to nuclear reaction rates of a 40 solar-mass Population III star using 1D multi-zone stellar models. A comprehensive nuclear reaction network was constructed, and all $(p,γ)$ and $(p,α)$ reaction rates were individually varied by a factor of 10 up and down, identifying 13...

Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of $J/ψ\to Λ\barΣ^0η+\mathrm{c.c}$

Based on a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of $ J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c} $ is performed for the first time. The dominant contributions are found to be excited $Λ$ states with $J^P=1/2^-$ and $J^P=1/2^+$ in the $ηΛ$ mass spectra. The measured masses...

A note on thermodynamics of the production processes

The process of creating goods and services, measured by their value, is considered a process of creating complexity. This allows us to consider the production system as an open thermodynamic system, and to develop a simple heuristic model of the production process. The model includes three production factors: the index of complexity...

Observation of exceptional topology and nonlocal skin effect in Klein bottle electric circuits

Symmetry and its representation play a crucial role in topological phases, including both Hermitian and non-Hermitian paradigms. In the presence of synthetic gauge field, spatial symmetries should be projectively represented, which can modify the Brillouin manifold. However, this is often overlooked in non-Hermitian systems. Here, we...

Here we demonstrate a clock-like, nuclear-spin avoided crossing in [1--$^{13}$C]-fumarate that supports long-lived and directly observable coherences at ultralow magnetic field: a three-spin transition $|S_0α\rangle...
