Regime-Dependent Predictive Structure Between Equity Factors: Evidence from Granger Causality

We document regime-dependent predictive structure between equity factors using 35 years of Fama-French data (1990-2024). We find that Value (HML) Granger-causes Size (SMB) during crisis regimes (p < 1e-4, 9-day lag) but not during normal conditions, validating across 5 of 6 historical stress events (2008, 2011, 2015, 2018, 2020)....

Bayesian Multiple Multivariate Density-Density Regression

We propose the first approach for multiple multivariate density-density regression (MDDR), making it possible to consider the regression of a multivariate density-valued response on multiple multivariate density-valued predictors. The core idea is to define a fitted distribution using a sliced Wasserstein barycenter (SWB) of...

New approach for elastic collisions with singular stress functions

A collision of a rubber rod to a hard floor is regarded as a simple example of obstacle problems for elastic material. In this article we have proposed a new mathematical model for the collision phenomenon by applying beam equations with singular stress functions, which is investigated in our recent works. As in the works we have...

SN 2024abfl: A Flat-Plateau, Low-Luminosity Type IIP Supernova with Early CSM Interaction

We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of SN 2024abfl, a low-luminosity Type IIP supernova (LLSN) discovered shortly after explosion. The transient reached a peak absolute magnitude of $M_V = -14.9$ and exhibited an extended, flat plateau lasting $\sim$125 days. From the late-time bolometric light curve, we estimate a...

Quantifying the Contamination of TESS Ecliptic-Plane Light Curves by Minor Planets

Though missions devoted to time series photometry focus primarily on targets far beyond the solar system, their observations can be contaminated by foreground minor planets, especially near the ecliptic plane where solar system objects are most prevalent. Crucially, depending on one's choice of data reduction/background estimation...

Credit Assignment via Neural Manifold Noise Correlation

Credit assignment--how changes in individual neurons and synapses affect a network's output--is central to learning in brains and machines. Noise correlation, which estimates gradients by correlating perturbations of activity with changes in output, provides a biologically plausible solution to credit assignment but scales poorly as...

Embedding Retrofitting: Data Engineering for better RAG

Embedding retrofitting adjusts pre-trained word vectors using knowledge graph constraints to improve domain-specific retrieval. However, the effectiveness of retrofitting depends critically on knowledge graph quality, which in turn depends on text preprocessing. This paper presents a data engineering framework that addresses data...

Freestanding Resist Metasurface Supporting Higher-Order BICs for Efficient Field Enhancement in TMD Monolayers

Enhancing light-matter coupling in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors such as transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers remains a central challenge in nanophotonics due to their atomic thickness, which limits their interaction volume with light. Here, we demonstrate that first-order quasi-bound states in the continuum (quasi-BICs)...

E-XQR-30: Evidence for an Increase in the Ionization State of Metal Absorbers from z~6 to z~2

We investigate the evolution of the ionization state of metal-enriched gas in and around galaxies near the epoch of reionization using a sample of 488 metal absorption systems at 4.3<z<6.3 from the E-XQR-30 survey. We classify the absorption systems based on whether they display only low-ionization absorption (CII, SiII, MgII), only...

Fluid Agency in AI Systems: A Case for Functional Equivalence in Copyright, Patent, and Tort

Modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems lack human-like consciousness or culpability, yet they exhibit fluid agency: behavior that is (i) stochastic (probabilistic and path-dependent), (ii) dynamic (co-evolving with user interaction), and (iii) adaptive (able to reorient across contexts). Fluid agency generates valuable outputs...

Copyright Laundering Through the AI Ouroboros: Adapting the 'Fruit of the Poisonous Tree' Doctrine to Recursive AI Training

Copyright enforcement rests on an evidentiary bargain: a plaintiff must show both the defendant's access to the work and substantial similarity in the challenged output. That bargain comes under strain when AI systems are trained through multi-generational pipelines with recursive synthetic data. As successive models are tuned on the...

Acoustic Analogy of Quantum Baldin Sum Rule for Optimal Causal Scattering

The mass law is a cornerstone in predicting sound transmission loss, yet it neglects the constraints of causal dispersion. Current causality-based theories, such as the Rozanov limit, are applicable only to one-port reflective absorbers. Here, we derive a universal sum rule governing causal scattering in acoustic systems, establishing...

Listen to the Unexpected: Self-Supervised Surprise Detection for Efficient Viewport Prediction

Adaptive streaming of 360-degree video relies on viewport prediction to allocate bandwidth efficiently. Current approaches predominantly use visual saliency or historical gaze patterns, neglecting the role of spatial audio in guiding user attention. This paper presents a self-learning framework for detecting "surprising" auditory...

Improved Evidence Extraction and Metrics for Document Inconsistency Detection with LLMs

Large language models (LLMs) are becoming useful in many domains due to their impressive abilities that arise from large training datasets and large model sizes. However, research on LLM-based approaches to document inconsistency detection is relatively limited. We address this gap by investigating evidence extraction capabilties of...

Massive $U(1)$ gauge field and their accompanying scalars in brane world

In brane-world scenarios, the effective action of a massless bulk \(U(1)\) gauge field preserves gauge invariance via couplings between massive vector Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes and scalar KK modes. In this work, we extend this framework by introducing a term \((\nabla^M X_M)^2\) into the massless bulk \(U(1)\) gauge action. This...

A note on dualities of F(4) type 3d N = 5 SCFTs

We suggest a new duality between a pair of 3d N = 5 SCFTs, one of ABJ type and one based on the exceptional superalgebra F (4). Our main evidence for the proposed duality is the matching of the superconformal index. In addition to the intrinsic interest in dualities between strongly coupled field theories, the result can also be...

LAsset: An LLM-assisted Security Asset Identification Framework for System-on-Chip (SoC) Verification

The growing complexity of modern system-on-chip (SoC) and IP designs is making security assurance difficult day by day. One of the fundamental steps in the pre-silicon security verification of a hardware design is the identification of security assets, as it substantially influences downstream security verification tasks, such as...

Joint extreme values of the Riemann zeta function at harmonic points

Using the resonance method, we obtain refined estimates for joint extreme values of the Riemann zeta function at harmonic points, improving upon Levinson's 1972 results and providing new insight into the behavior of the Riemann zeta function. Our proof is primarily based on Dirichlet series theory and the truncated Euler product for...

Where does the simplified Stellar Contamination Model fail in Exoplanet Transmission Spectroscopy?

Stellar photospheric heterogeneities (e.g., starspots, faculae) distort the stellar spectrum in transit and imprint wavelength-dependent biases on the planet-to-star radius ratio (Transit Light Source Effect, TLSE). The Rackham-TLSE (R-TLSE) prescription applies a disc-averaged correction based solely on filling factor and spectral...

$K$-Bad Spheres

In this paper we look at the $E$-completion of topological spaces where $E$ is a $p$-local ring spectrum. After a brief review of the concept of $E$-completion, we specialize to the case where $E=K$, $p$-local complex periodic $K$-theory, and consider the $K$-theory of the unstable sphere $S^{2n+1}$. We show that for certain values of...

Wafer-scale High-k SrTiO3 Dielectrics with Rational Barrier-layer Design for Low Leakage and High Charge Density

High-k oxides such as SrTiO3 promise large capacitance, but their dielectric response is often limited by leakage currents due to reduced bandgaps. We show that introducing a thin barrier layer beneath SrTiO3 is a simple and effective way to suppress leakage and increase charge density. Using hybrid molecular beam epitaxy, we grew...
